May we suggest the next best thing to tarrying on the red carpet? Viewing the 82 Annual Academy Awards ceremony live from the luxurious, Art Deco-inspired auditorium of the historic State Theatre. Watch the festivities on The State’s big screen where the stars appear to be larger than life, and in a setting where you can share the triumphs and defeats with hundreds of other ardent movie-goers and film buffs. The doors open at 4, giving you plenty of time to purchase a glass of premium wine or a draught beer and grab a bite to eat before settling in for the live broadcast starting at 5 p.m. Also joining us will be Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner’s family as we rally for Renner in his bid for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Army Staff Sergeant William James in The Hurt Locker. The native Modestan’s performance has been recognized by film critics as one of the year’s best so be on hand for the action as we marshal support for a local boy who made good – and who may take home an Oscar for outstanding achievement in his craft. Among the 2010 nominees are over a dozen films shown – or soon to be shown – at The State so there’s going to be lots of cheers and jeers as we see our favorites win or go down in defeat. Among the nominees we’ve seen or have booked are: In The Loop; An Education; A Serious Man; The Hurt Locker; The Last Station; The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus; The Young Victoria; The White Ribbon; Bright Star; Coco Before Chanel; Food, Inc.; and the Oscar-nominated short and live-action short films from filmmakers around the world. |
